I call the Oath Keepers ‘double patriots’ for they remind me of the Japanese military, especially the Army, between the world wars.

Those people interfered with politics in Japan by methods like assassinating politicians and creating incidents that gave the militarist a reason to go to war. They excused this by describing themselves as ‘double patriots’. They claimed they were serving the true wishes of the Emperor by acting against the ‘traitors’ in the government. Of course by ‘traitors’ they meant ‘those who have different policy goals than us’ or ‘people who are a danger to our power’.

The Oath Keepers are cut from the same bolt of cloth.

Rhodes insists his group is not anti government, but he and other Oath Keepers do describe the government as tyrannical and repressive.

They are not Anti Government as long as it is run by the current far right Republican party. But they are most definitely Anti democracy precisely for the same reason.

The real question is whether these “patriots” will do more than take oaths and feel special about it. Will they actually put up their own money to advertise?
